Bismarck Class Presents Dalrymple Essays On State Quarter
Quarter Commission Asks For Student Input
BISMARCK, N.D. - Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple today received input on the final proposals for the North Dakota state quarter from a 5th grade class at Bismarck’s Northridge Elementary School. Through persuasive essays, the students informed Dalrymple that, of the two finalists, they prefer the buffalo design.
“It is great to see students take an active role in the selection of the state quarter,” Dalrymple said. “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for all of us to choose a design that will be seen worldwide.”
Mrs. Jennifer Picard’s 5th grade class has followed the work of the state quarter commission and used it as an opportunity to learn about U.S. currency and practice their persuasive writing skills.
Dalrymple also requested input from all students from across the state. He announced that the North Dakota State Quarter Commission sent information to schools across the state today encouraging educators to give their students the opportunity to vote for their favorite design.
“This quarter will represent all North Dakotans,” Dalrymple said. “We want to ensure that everyone has a chance to have their voice heard as we make a final decision.”
The public can fill out a comment card at their local chambers of commerce or download one on the web at www.governor.nd.gov/quarter. Comments must be received no later than May 24, 2005. The state must submit the final design to the U.S. Mint by May 31, 2005.
