Hoeven Signs State Employee Pay Bill

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today held a news conference and bill signing ceremony for House Bill 1050, which gives state employees an eight percent pay increase over the next two years. Hoeven was joined by local legislators and state employees for the bill signing.

"Our state employees work hard on behalf of the citizens of North Dakota," Hoeven said. "One way that we can show our appreciation is to compensate them for the fine job that they do."

The bill, which was passed by the North Dakota Legislature nearly unanimously, will give state employees a four percent pay raise in each of the next two years. State employees will also continue to receive fully paid health insurance coverage.

The bill was sponsored by Reps. Ron Carlisle, Bob Martinson and Todd Porter, as well as Sens. Bob Stenehjem, Dave Nething and Randy Schobinger.

"We worked hard this session to give state employees the best pay increase possible," Senate Majority Leader Bob Stenehjem said. "I am proud of the package that we passed and I am proud of the work that our employees do for the people of North Dakota."

Hoeven was also joined at the bill signing by members of the North Dakota Public Employees Association and the Independent North Dakota State Employees Association.
