Hoeven Appoints Fong Tax Commissioner
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today appointed Cory Fong North Dakota Tax Commissioner. Fong replaces Rick Clayburgh who is leaving office on May 31, 2005. The Tax Commissioner is responsible for administering North Dakota tax law.
Fong currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of the state Commerce Department. Prior to working for the Commerce Department, Fong served as Director of the Hoeven Committee, Deputy Secretary of State, and Director of Elections Division in the Secretary of State’s Office.
“Throughout his career, Cory has shown his dedication to our state and proven his leadership ability,” Hoeven said. “Cory also brings a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm to the office of Tax Commissioner.”
Fong is a native of Helena, Montana and a graduate of Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Speech Communications in 1994. He has lived in Bismarck since 1994. Cory and his wife Cecily were recently married in June of 2004.
“I would like to thank Governor Hoeven for this opportunity to serve the people of North Dakota,” Fong said. “Given my background, I have a lot to bring to this position.
