Hoeven Directs Flags To Fly At Half-Staff, Calls On North Dakotans To Observe Moment Of Remembrance
BISMARCK, N.D. - In accordance with the proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Governor Hoeven has directed all government agencies to fly the United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff until noon on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.
In addition, Hoeven calls on all North Dakotans to observe the President’s request that Americans unite in prayer at 11 a.m. local time, and that a moment of silence be observed at 3 p.m. local time for the National Moment of Remembrance.
“On Memorial Day and all year long, we remember the brave men and women in uniform who have given their lives in service to this state and nation, and recognize the contributions they have made to the preservation of peace and freedom around the world,” Hoeven said. “We honor all of our veterans who answered their nation’s call to duty with devotion and selfless courage, and we continue to pray for those who are again defending our liberties here at home and in foreign lands.”
The National Moment of Remembrance was formally established by an act of Congress in 1950 to observe each Memorial Day as a day of prayer for permanent peace and to designate a time on that day when Americans might unite in prayer and remembrance.
