Hoeven Calls On North Dakotans To Observe Independence Day
BISMARCK, N.D. - As Americans prepare to celebrate the 229th birthday of our nation's independence, Gov. John Hoeven today called on North Dakotans to take a moment this July 4 to remember the brave men and women who have served, and those that continue to serve, to defend our country and preserve its ideals. Hoeven encouraged citizens to demonstrate their gratitude by flying a flag, thanking a veteran or helping a family with loved ones currently serving at home or abroad.
"North Dakotans, as well as all Americans, owe a debt of gratitude to those who took a stand for liberty and democracy throughout our nation's history and those who continue that stand today," Hoeven said. "The same spirit and perseverance with which this country was founded have been handed down to generations of patriots who, when called, put their lives on the line for a greater cause.
"This Fourth of July provides us with an opportunity to thank those who are sacrificing so much on our behalf, and to honor those who gave their lives in the name of freedom. When you see a veteran walking down the street, thank him or her for their courage and service. Make life a little easier for a family with a loved one currently serving by offering a helping hand or kind words of support. And when you display your flag, remember the heroes who made this day and every day, Independence Day."
