Hoeven Announces Appointment Of Lisa Fair Mcevers As Labor Commissioner
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced his appointment of Lisa Fair McEvers as North Dakota Labor Commissioner. Fair McEvers replaces Leann Bertsch, who became director of the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
“Lisa brings to the office a strong background, including experience in both private practice and public service,” Hoeven said. “She will serve North Dakota with the same distinction that she has served in all of her previous positions.”
A native of Minto, Fair McEvers graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from the University of North Dakota in 1993. She received her Juris Doctorus from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1997, and subsequently worked as law clerk to Justice William A. Neumann at the North Dakota Supreme Court.
From 1998 to 2001, Fair McEvers was in private practice in Fargo. Since 2001, she has served as assistant Cass County state's attorney. Prior to law school, Fair McEvers worked in court administration in the Northeast Judicial District for seven years. She and her husband Jim currently live in Fargo.
“I am grateful to Governor Hoeven for giving me the opportunity to serve as labor commissioner,” Fair McEvers said. “The position will allow me to serve the citizens of North Dakota by fostering working relations between employers and employees. I will work diligently to protect people’s rights, improve working conditions and promote the development of industry.”
