Hoevens Bring E85 Avalanche To State Fair Parade, Governor To Fly Over Fairgrounds In B-52
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven and First Lady Mikey Hoeven will march in the State Fair Parade Saturday in Minot with the state's new flexible fuel E85 vehicle. Later in the day, the governor will take part in a B-52 Stratofortress flyover of the fairgrounds.
The Hoevens will drive the state's new Chevrolet Avalanche to the fair and accompany the vehicle in the parade, which is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. The Hoevens' entry is number 16.
The Chevrolet Avalanche is a flexible fuel vehicle, which can run on a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. General Motors is providing it to the state for one year to encourage the use of 85 percent ethanol-blended fuel. It's part of a campaign by GM, the Governors' Ethanol Coalition and Gov. Hoeven to promote the use of ethanol and increase awareness of E85 and flexible fuel vehicles.
In the afternoon, Hoeven will take part in a B-52 Stratofortress flyover at 2 p.m. to highlight the important role of the Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota The 5th Bomb Wing is a major Air Combat Command unit and host wing on Minot AFB. Hoeven was invited to take the 3-hour flight by 5th Bomb Wing Commander Col. Eldon Woodie.
The B-52, one of the most storied and celebrated aircraft in the American fleet, is more than 159 feet long and has a wingspan of 185 feet. It can travel at speeds of 650 miles per hour and reach an altitude of 50,000 feet. It can carry 70,000 pounds of mixed ordinance.
