Hoeven Congratulates NDSCS On Start Of Center For Nanoscience Technology Training

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven, along with members of the North Dakota congressional delegation and North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) officials, celebrated the first step in the creation of a Center of Excellence for Nanoscience Technology and Training. The new center, which will train technicians to work in the field of nanoscience, will be located at the Skills Technology and Training Center in Fargo.

"We have been working to bring together education and economic development to create Centers of Excellence at colleges and universities throughout our state," Hoeven said. "The new program at the College of Science will dovetail with the work we have been doing at NDSU to bring new high-tech companies to our state."

Hoeven proposed his Centers of Excellence plan during the 2003 legislative session. It is designed to bring research and training opportunities into the university system through partnerships with private sector companies. Hoeven secured a commitment of up to $50 million to fund the program, which can be leveraged with private funds for a total of $150 million.

"Technology based business services are one of the key areas that we have targeted for growth in our state," Hoeven said. "Programs like the Nanoscience Technology Training Center will provide our students with the skills and experience they need for a career in this field right in North Dakota."
