Hoeven Recognizes State Employees For Excellence In Public Service

BISMARCK , N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today presented the Governor's Award for Excellence in Public Service to five state employees who were recognized for their dedication and contributions to the people of North Dakota. The awards were presented during a luncheon at the Capitol Building in Bismarck, kicking off State Employee Recognition Week.

Jeb Williams is an outreach biologist with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department in Bismarck and is responsible for developing and implementing outreach programs that benefit the department, as well as North Dakota's citizens. He has been instrumental in promoting the state's wildlife resources, while building strong partnerships with wildlife clubs, environmental organizations and the public.

Brian Heitkamp is a database design analyst with Job Service North Dakota in Bismarck, and has worked for the agency since June 1977. He was instrumental in completing more than 14 information technology projects for the agency this past year and was involved in a major agency strategic initiative to allow online filing for employees and employers.

Mark Herz is a building services coordinator with Facilities Management at North Dakota State University in Fargo. This past year, he was instrumental in getting facilities ready for the grand opening of the university's downtown campus.

Arlen Skunberg is a carpenter with the Carpenters Shop at North Dakota State University in Fargo, and has worked for the university for 35 years. He is responsible for completing numerous projects on campus that help create and maintain an environment conducive for learning and research.

Carey Fry is a supervisor with the Jobs Program Unit of Job Service North Dakota in Fargo and is responsible for working with the community's diverse individuals to obtain employment and become competitive in the local labor market. She created the first annual Diversity Resource Expo and Career Fair in Fargo, bringing together job seekers and employers, and established a literacy group to help New Americans learn the English language.

The award recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a committee of five judges who reviewed and scored the nominations. Nominees were rated on their overall job performance, contributions to their department, commitment to customer service, working relationship with fellow workers and involvement in their community.
