Hoeven Announces Presidential Emergency Declaration For Hurricane Katrina Aid
BISMARCK , N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today received notification that President Bush has approved North Dakota's request for a Presidential Emergency Declaration for eligible costs incurred by state and local governments in response to Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts.
"North Dakota is helping with the relief efforts and we will continue to provide more assistance," Hoeven said. "This declaration will enable our state and local government agencies to supplement recovery resources expended in support of the Gulf States."
The Presidential Emergency Declaration will provide 100 percent federal assistance, under the Public Assistance Program, for emergency protective measures incurred as a result of North Dakota's efforts to assist hurricane evacuees from the Gulf Region.
"FEMA's Public Assistance Program will help state and local governments with expenses they are currently shouldering in support of relief efforts for hurricane evacuees," said North Dakota Division of Homeland Security Director Susan Reinertson. "The North Dakota Division of Homeland Security is providing state management of the Public Assistance Program."
