N.D. Department Of Emergency Services Sends Personnel To Coordinate Hurricane Relief Efforts

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced the N.D. Department of Emergency Services (DES) has responded to Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) requests by deploying personnel to fill essential coordinating team roles in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

“The specialized expertise these individuals have demonstrated, while in service to the state of North Dakota, has and will continue to benefit response and recovery efforts in hurricane devastated areas of the Gulf Coast states,” Hoeven said.

Janna Charrier, a mitigation and recovery specialist, will be sent to the Louisiana Emergency Operations Center in Baton Rouge. Additionally, Ray Morrell, an emergency planning specialist, has been selected for an assignment in Louisiana. Don Ronsberg, an emergency operations specialist, recently returned from an EMAC deployment to Louisiana during the first wave of response after Hurricane Katrina.

“Our state’s emergency management specialists will assist Louisiana by coordinating resource requests and processing nationwide offers of assistance,” said Susan Reinertson, Director of DES’ Division of Homeland Security.

EMAC is an interstate compact that facilitates state-to-state mutual aid. For more information about EMAC, visit the Web site at www.emacweb.org. Information on organizations that are accepting donated services, resources or funds can be found on the N.D. Department of Emergency Services Web site at www.state.nd.us/des/info/public.
