Hoeven Sends Guard to Dickinson to Clear Routes for Emergency Vehicles
Governor Offers Assistance to Other Affected Areas
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today sent National Guard troops to Dickinson with chain saws, front end loaders and other heavy equipment to help clear right of ways for emergency vehicles in the wake of yesterday’s severe snow storm. Hoeven also asked the North Dakota Department of Transportation to allocate snow removal equipment diverted from the eastern part of the state last night to help clear roads and evacuate stranded motorists.
“Our primary concern continues to be public safety,” Hoeven said. “That means making sure that roads are clear of fallen trees and debris to ensure that ambulances, fire trucks and other emergency vehicles can reach their destinations efficiently and quickly.”
In addition to Mayor Dennis Johnson of Dickinson, the Governor contacted local and tribal officials in other affected cities to offer help in the aftermath of unusually early winter weather.
“We appreciate all the hard work that first responders, emergency personnel, linemen, city and county officials and ordinary citizens have provided throughout this storm,” Hoeven said.
