Hoeven Announces $1.4 Million Department Of Labor Grant For United Tribes Technical College
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced a $1.4 million U.S. Department of Labor grant for United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) in Bismarck. The grant is part of the President’s Community Job Based Training Initiative. The funding will provide academically and economically disadvantaged individuals with the opportunity to receive training from industry-certified staff on medical transcription equipment and software used by the healthcare industry.
“I commend Dr. David Gipp and United Tribes Technical College for their successful efforts to secure this grant and for their constant efforts to provide more opportunities for their students,” Hoeven said. “We’ve met with Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Emily Stover DeRocco on several occasions to explain the outstanding work that UTTC is doing on behalf of Native Americans in North Dakota, and to encourage grant funding for the school. We are grateful to the Department of Labor and to the Administration for making this grant possible.”
The grant was awarded through a competitive process with over 400 applications from across the country. The grant will leverage $555,550 in additional funding from employer, workforce, education and other partners.
“This is a positive step in our efforts to connect our students to high paying jobs right here in North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “This grant will allow United Tribes Technical College to train 200 students to use state-of-the-art medical transcription equipment.”
