Hoeven: Energy Companies Agree On ND Project
State Continues Push To Grow Energy Economy

BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today congratulated Montana-Dakota Utilities, Co., Minnesota Power, Basin Electric Cooperative and Minnkota Power Cooperative for a recently concluded project development agreement to explore the feasibility of a joint lignite-fueled generating station near the existing Milton R. Young generating station near Center, North Dakota.

“We have worked for some time now with all of these companies, through the Commerce Department, Lignite Energy Council, Industrial Commission and my office, to move forward on a new facility in North Dakota,” Hoeven said. “This announcement marks a big step forward for the companies and the state. We will do all we can to grow our energy economy and assist the partners in their efforts to help meet the energy needs of our state and nation.”

The new plant would come online in 2015, a time when the region is projected to need the additional capacity, according to the partners. Cooperating with other companies on so large a project will provide them with economies of scale, they said.
