Hoeven Commends USDA For Opening Japanese Market To American Beef
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to news that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has opened Japanese markets to U.S. beef products:
“Japanese markets are important to U.S. cattle producers, particularly for the higher end cuts of meat. We produce the highest quality and safest beef in the world, and that fact is backed by sound science.
“We have been working on this trade issue at length, and it is certainly time that Japan opened its market. The Japanese depend on the United States for a huge volume of products, and they need to reciprocate on products we export to them.
“We’ve continued to do all we can to get Secretary Johanns, the USDA and the U.S. Trade Representative to put pressure on Japan for our producers. We’re pleased the Japanese market will again be open to our cattle producers, and we’ll continue to advocate on behalf of our ranchers.”
