Hoeven Appoints Michael G. Sturdevant Northeast Judicial District Judge
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today appointed Michael G. Sturdevant to serve on the Northeast Judicial District bench. Sturdevant expects to assume the position April 1. He replaces Judge Lester Ketterling, who has retired.
"Mike Sturdevant is highly respected by his peers, and brings a great breadth of experience to the position," Hoeven said. "His extensive knowledge of the law, his judicial demeanor and his experience with the private sector and business will make him an outstanding judge."
"I am highly honored to have been selected by Governor Hoeven for this important position and look forward to serving the people of the Northeast Judicial District," Sturdevant said.
A native of Wahpeton, Sturdevant has practiced law in Minot since 1974. He currently serves on the North Dakota Judicial Conference; the Joint Procedure Committee of the North Dakota Supreme Court; and the Disciplinary Board of the North Dakota Supreme Court. He previously served in numerous state and regional Bar Association positions.
He has been, in addition, active in the Minot Symphony Association, the Salvation Army Local Advisory Board and as a legal volunteer for several charitable clubs and foundations, including the Little Flower Stewardship Foundation, the YWCA of Minot Foundation, the Nodak Racing Club and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center.
Sturdevant holds a Bachelor's Degree from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of North Dakota School of Law.
