Hoeven Announces Federal Funding Approval From Disaster Declaration
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today announced the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a $1.2 million federal grant for the state, associated with the Presidential Disaster Declaration for the November 27-30, 2005 snow storm.
“This grant will help the Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative make essential repairs to their electrical infrastructure in a three county area, replacing temporary repairs with permanent repairs,” Hoeven said. “We thank those involved in the grant process for their continued efforts to obtain help where help is most needed.”
Hoeven received notification from FEMA that Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative will receive a federal share in the amount of $1,217,766.05 to repair and replace broken poles and power lines.
At Hoeven’s request, on January 4, 2006, President Bush declared a major disaster declaration for the State of North Dakota triggering the release of federal assistance to help communities respond to the severe winter storm that occurred November 27-30, 2005. The disaster declaration was based on damage assessment reports compiled by local officials and submitted to FEMA by the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.
