Hoeven Appoints Reich South Central Judicial District Court Judge
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today announced his appointment of David E. Reich of Bismarck to the South Central Judicial District Court. Reich is an attorney in private practice with the firm of Pearce and Durick, where he has been a partner since 1986. His practice has been largely in civil litigation.
“Dave is enormously respected among his peers not only for his breadth of legal knowledge, professional competence and even judicial temperament, but also his concern for the community and his solid good citizenship,” Hoeven said. “In all of his endeavors, fairness and integrity are a mark of his involvement.”
“I would like to thank Governor Hoeven for having the confidence in my abilities to appoint me to this position,” Reich said. “It is indeed an honor to be selected to this position and I look forward to working for the people of the State of North Dakota and the South Central Judicial District.”
Reich has more than 20 years of experience as a trial attorney, including more than thirty civil jury trials and twenty appeals briefed and/or argued before the North Dakota Supreme Court. He has significant administrative hearing experience as Special Assistant Attorney General for Workforce Safety and Insurance and the North Dakota Real Estate Commission. In addition to his trial experience, Reich is a qualified and experienced mediator. He has written a number of articles for professional publications, and presented at numerous seminars on a variety of legal topics.
Reich received a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks in 1979, and a Juris Doctorate with Distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1982. He was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in October 1982, and admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of North Dakota and the Eighth Circuit Court of appeals.
He is also a member of numerous other professional associations, including Big Muddy and American Bar Associations; the Defense Research Institute; North Dakota Defense Lawyers Association; and the North Dakota Council of School Attorneys. In addition to his participation in professional organizations, Reich has volunteered extensively in the community. He is a past member and chair of the Good Shephard Lutheran Church, church missions team; United Way Day of Caring; Folkfest committee; Burleigh County Extension Advisory Committee; University of Mary President’s and Varsity Clubs and fundraising campaigns, youth basketball coach and other community activities.
