Hoeven Announces Third Round Of Centers Of Excellence Funding
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today announced the approval of $1.15 million in Centers of Excellence funding for the Center for Entrepreneurship and Rural Revitalization at Dickinson State University. The grant was part of the third and final round of Centers of Excellence for the current biennium.
“The Centers of Excellence program both unleashes the economic development potential of our university system and provides more opportunities for our students,” Hoeven said. “The $1.15 million grant for Dickinson State University will leverage nearly $3 million in matching funds and create up to 120 jobs over five years.”
The mission of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Revitalization is to promote economic development through entrepreneurial strategies. Through the Institute for Technology and Business, the center will focus on commercial applications of technology to help technology-based businesses start or expand in rural North Dakota communities. The institute will begin with a keystone project that will help Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing expand its high-tech aerospace manufacturing.
“Our universities have done an outstanding job developing proposals and presenting them to the Centers of Excellence Commission,” said Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple, an advisor to the six-member Centers of Excellence Commission. “The members of the commission also deserve praise for their hard work throughout the three rounds of funding this biennium.”
Representing the State Board of Higher Education on the Centers of Excellence Commission are Richard Kunkel of Devils Lake, Bev Clayburgh of Grand Forks and John Q. Paulson of Fargo. Representing the Economic Development Foundation are Tim Hennessy of U.S. Bank in Bismarck, Kathy Gaddie of Ryan Chevrolet in Minot, and Mark Nisbet, North Dakota principal manager for Xcel Energy in Fargo, and chairman of the commission.
