Hoeven Proclaims A Day Of Prayer On Memorial Day And Directs Flags To Fly At Half Staff
Governor Calls On North Dakotans To Observe A Moment Of Remembrance
BISMARCK, N.D. – In accordance with a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Gov. John Hoeven has proclaimed Monday, May 29, a day of prayer in North Dakota, and has directed all government agencies to fly the American and North Dakota flags at half staff until noon on Memorial Day.
In addition, Hoeven calls on all North Dakotans to observe the President’s request that Americans unite in prayer at 11 a.m. local time on that day, and that a moment of silence also be observed at 3 p.m. local time for the National Moment of Remembrance.
“Throughout our history, the men and women who have proudly worn the uniform of the United States have placed the security of our nation before their own safety, and for that we will be forever grateful for their service and sacrifice,” Hoeven said. “On Memorial Day and all year long, we remember the fallen heroes who have given their lives to defend this country and preserve peace and freedom around the world. We honor all of our veterans who answered their nation’s call to duty with devotion and selfless courage, and we continue to pray for those who are again defending our liberties here at home and in foreign lands.”
Hoeven will commemorate Memorial Day by attending a veterans service at 10:30 a.m. at the All Veterans Memorial on the State Capitol Grounds in Bismarck. He will also attend a ceremony at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, beginning at 11:45 a.m.
