Hoeven Issues Independence Day Proclamation
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today issued a proclamation calling on North Dakotans to keep in mind the principles of the Founding Fathers, and to remember our troops serving in harms way overseas on this Independence Day. Following is the text of the proclamation:
PROCLAMATION
Independence Day
JULY 4, 2006
WHEREAS, on July 4, 1776 our nation claimed our freedom by the signing of the Declaration of Independence and Democracy was born.
WHEREAS, the patriots of the Revolutionary War, and all wars to follow, acted on the beliefs of our founding fathers. By fighting for our independence, generations of Americans have been able to enjoy freedom and prosperity and have given hope to people in every corner of the world.
WHEREAS, thousands of immigrants leave their homes every day to come to the "land of the free and the home of the brave" to live their American dream.
WHEREAS, as we celebrate our independence, Americans can take pride in our history and look to the future with confidence. We remember and offer our gratitude to all American soldiers, past and present, who have made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live a life of liberty and justice. May God continue to bless the United States of America.
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim July 4, 2006, INDEPENDENCE DAY in the state of North Dakota.
