Hoeven Appoints Daniel D. Narum To Southeast Judicial District Bench
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today appointed LaMoure County State’s Attorney Daniel D. Narum to the Southeast Judicial District bench. He expects to assume the position as soon as he can finish his law office responsibilities.
Narum was appointed assistant State’s Attorney in 1999, was appointed State’s Attorney in 2001, and elected State’s Attorney in 2002. He is also a partner in the law firm of Kessel, Splitt & Narum, where he has practiced since 1999.
“Dan is intelligent, capable and wants to serve. His knowledge of legal issues, as well as his commitment to rural North Dakota, will enable him to serve the Southeast Judicial District well,” Hoeven said. “He has already established a strong record, including service with distinction in our nation’s military.”
“On behalf of Caroline and myself I want to express our sincere gratitude to Governor Hoeven for my appointment as district judge,” Narum said. “As a small town lawyer and a native of southeastern North Dakota I am ever mindful of the importance of access to the legal system in our rural counties. As judge I will strive to continue to provide our rural citizens with full access to our legal system. I am excited about this opportunity to serve my community as district judge, and I am honored to be selected from a list of very talented attorneys.”
Narum holds a B.A. degree from North Dakota State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law. Between 1987 and 1990 he served in the United States Navy, where he served on two combat ships.
He is a past president of the Young Lawyers Section of the State Bar Association of North Dakota, and president elect of the Southeast Judicial District Bar Association. In 2004, he was made Judge Advocate by the North Dakota Department of American Legion. In 2003-2004, he was made Lion of the Year by the LaMoure Lion’s Club.
Narum has also been active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, LaMoure Lions Club, LaMoure Chamber of Commerce, James River Sportsman’s Club Lamoure Community Development Corp., and the LaMoure Volunteer Fire Department.
Narum and his wife Caroline Homan, a graduate student in childhood development at North Dakota State University, live in LaMoure.
