Hoeven Appoints William A. Herauf To Southwest Judicial District Bench
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today appointed Dickinson attorney William A. Herauf to serve on the Southwest Judicial District bench. He expects to assume the position upon the retirement of Judge Ron Hilden.
Herauf has practiced law in Dickinson for the past 24 years. He is currently a member of Mackoff Kellogg and prior to that, practiced with Reichert & Herauf, P.C. since 1996. He also served as assistant city attorney for the City of Dickinson between 1985 and 1990, and as Slope County State's Attorney for one and a half years during the same timeframe.
"Bill has experience in both criminal and civil law, and he served as both a prosecutor and defense attorney," Hoeven said. "He will exercise justice and fairness in his work to protect the people of North Dakota. He is a lifelong resident of Dickinson who will serve the Southwest Judicial District well, and he is highly respected by his peers."
"I am absolutely honored by the appointment of Governor Hoeven to serve the citizens of Southwestern North Dakota as a District Judge," Herauf said. "I very much appreciate how tough this decision must have been considering the quality of candidates presented, and I look forward to serving as District Judge for Southwestern North Dakota."
Herauf holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing from the University of North Dakota, and a law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law.
He currently serves as the president of the Southwest Judicial District and the State Board of Governors. In addition, he serves on the Stark, Slope, Dunn Counties Bar Association, and is a past president of the North Dakota Trial Lawyers Association. He is also chairman of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court; and a member of the SBAND Board of Governors and the Pastor Parish Committee of the United Methodist Church.
