Hoeven Appoints Ziegler To Head North Dakota Department Of Transportation
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that he has appointed Francis G. Ziegler to head the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT). Ziegler will assume the office on Oct. 5.
“Francis brings breadth of knowledge and a wealth of experience to directing this large and important agency,” Hoeven said. “His expertise and dedication to our state’s transportation infrastructure is especially welcome with so many new and important projects now underway in the state.”
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the Governor and the State in this capacity,” Ziegler said. “I look forward to fulfilling the DOT’s mission of safely moving people and goods.”
Ziegler, who is currently the director of the agency’s Office of Project Development, has served the state of North Dakota in a number of capacities for 36 years, including West Region Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer (Operations), Construction Engineer, and Project and Resident Engineer. He has worked on numerous major projects around the state, including the new Four Bears Bridge, the Memorial Bridge and the four lane expansion of Highway 2.
Ziegler has also served on a number of civic organizations. He has been president of the Bismarck Park Board, the Bismarck Recreation Council, the Ronald McDonald House Board and the Bismarck Gymnastic Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering from North Dakota State University and is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in North Dakota. He is a native of Zeeland, North Dakota.
