Hoeven Presents $2 Million Check For NDSU Center Of Excellence On Surface Protection
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today presented a $2 million check to North Dakota State University for the Center of Excellence on Surface Protection. The Center will provide market-driven research and development of surface protecting coatings that will enhance the durability of products manufactured in North Dakota. The $2 million in Center of Excellence funding will leverage $4.0 million in private sector investment into the project.
Joining Hoeven for the presentation were North Dakota State University President Joseph Chapman; NDSU Vice-President for Research Dr. Phil Boudjouk; Chair of the Centers of Excellence Commission Mark Nisbet; and representatives of the industry partners: Gremada Industries, Akzo Nobel Aerospace Coatings, Gamry Instruments, Marvin Windows and Doors and Tecton Products.
"This Center will allow local companies to take advantage of the world class research and development taking place at NDSU," Hoeven said. "As a result of this project, the private sector partners will increase their competitiveness in the marketplace and add nearly 30 new jobs."
"This North Dakota Center of Excellence shall be a Center based on expertise that has been an NDSU specialty for a century," said Pres. Joseph A. Chapman. "The NDSU Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials is a specialized department known worldwide for performing very high quality R&D on coatings as well as educating excellent graduate and undergraduate students for outstanding careers."
A Center of Excellence is a hub of research and development on the campuses of the North Dakota University System around which related businesses expand and dynamic new businesses cluster. The Governor's initiative provides up to $50 million for Centers of Excellence. The dollars will be leveraged with private and federal matching funds to generate a total investment in new jobs and businesses of more than $150 million.
