First Lady Mikey Hoeven Promotes Importance Of Reading In Read For 2007 Celebration
First Lady to Read at Jeannette Myhre Elementary School in Bismarck and Donate Books to School Library
BISMARCK, N.D. - First Lady Mikey Hoeven has signed on to be an Ambassador of Reading for North Dakota, as part of the eighth annual "Scholastic Book Clubs Read for 2007: Read for Life initiative. On Friday, December 8, the First Lady will lead a statewide celebration of reading, encouraging all children, teachers and parents to take time during the day to read a book.
As part of this initiative, Hoeven will read to the second grade class at Jeannette Myhre Elementary School in Bismarck and will donate 500 books to the school library. This year, Scholastic partnered with Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), the oldest and largest children's literacy organization in the country, to extend the message to get kids reading all year round.
"Scholastic Read for 2007: Read For Life is a great way to promote literacy throughout North Dakota, stated First Lady Hoeven. "Reading is such an integral part of the learning process for children and we are thankful to Scholastic Books for enabling us to make this an annual event for the schools and libraries throughout the state.
Joining First Lady Mikey Hoeven in the Read for 2007 reading celebration are gubernatorial first spouses in states across the country.
