Hoeven Declares Day Of Mourning For President Gerald R. Ford

BISMARCK, N.D. - In accordance with a proclamation by President George W. Bush, Gov. John Hoeven has declared Tuesday, January 2, 2007, a Day of Mourning throughout the state as a mark of respect to the memory of President Gerald R. Ford. Hoeven called on all North Dakotans to take time at home or work to honor the nation's 38th president and pay tribute to his legacy.

"President Ford will long be remembered as a man of quiet dignity, honesty and sound judgment," Hoeven said. "He assumed leadership of our nation at a time when our country was deeply divided and its future uncertain. His place in history is secured by the legacy of a stronger country. I encourage all North Dakotans to reflect on the life of this great president and the enduring contributions he made to America and the world."

As North Dakota observes this Day of Mourning, all state agencies will maintain regular business hours.
