Higher Ed Board Member Charles W. Murphy Resigns
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today accepted the resignation of Higher Education Board member Charles W. Murphy. In his letter of resignation, Murphy thanked the Governor and the board for their support, but said “the time that is required to serve the board successfully is more than I can devote at this time.”
Hoeven will ask the Board of Higher Education nominating committee to begin the process of selecting a replacement to serve Murphy’s remaining term. Constitutionally, the committee solicits applicants and chooses three names to advance to the Governor, from which he will choose a nominee. Hoeven said he has asked the committee to provide the names in time for Senate confirmation during the current legislative session.
Members of the nominating committee include the President of the North Dakota Education Association; the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court; the Superintendent of Public Instruction; the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
