Happy Hooligans To Assist Minot Air Force Base Security Forces

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven, North Dakota Adjutant General David Sprynczynatyk and 91st Space Wing Commander Col. Marty Whelan today held a briefing on the new N.D. Air National Guard (NDANG) squadron that will be supporting the 91st Space Wing at Minot Air Force Base.

The NDANG squadron will consist primarily of Security Forces Guard members that will be fully integrated within the 91st Security Forces Group.  Air National Guard members will train and serve alongside the active duty personnel to provide mission-ready capability and provide surge capacity for increased force protection conditions.

"This unique relationship between the N.D. Air National Guard and the Active Duty Air Force is the first of its kind. Not only will this opportunity bring more military jobs to N.D., it will also give Happy Hooligans the opportunity to live and work in the Minot area,” said Hoeven. “Our Happy Hooligans will now be supporting missions at the Air Force bases in both Minot and Grand Forks.”

Hiring for the new squadron is expected to begin in April, 2007.  The squadron is expected to bring approximately 60 full-time and 80 part-time Air National Guard positions to the Minot area.  Positions in Administration, Medical and Training will also be hired by the N.D. Air National Guard to support the squadron. No positions on the Minot Air Force base were affected by the additional guard squadron.

"This is a success story contributed to over five years of hard work and determination," said Maj. Gen. Sprynczynatyk.  "Military leaders from N.D., 91st Space Wing, Minot Air Force Base and the office of Gov. Hoeven have been in the forefront of this collaborative process."

“This total-force initiative is a great opportunity for us (91st SW) and the North Dakota Air National Guard to enhance missile-field security,” said Col. Whelan. “We look forward to the partnership.”
