Hoeven Names Martindale Board Of Higher Education Student Member

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today named Nathan R. Martindale to serve as the student representative on the State Board of Higher Education. Martindale will be a senior at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and is pursuing a degree in Business Administration: Management Entrepreneurship. He will serve a one-year term effective July 1.

"Nate brings great qualities to the Board of Higher Education," Hoeven said. "His background in student government will give him a broad perspective in representing the students of the university system. He will help bring new ideas and student insight to the board."

Nathan is completing his term as Student Body President, having served as an official representative of the UND student body. He currently serves as a student senator in the University Senate and a delegate at the North Dakota Student Association. He has been named a University of North Dakota Presidential Scholar; a member of the Order of Omega, an honors society; and received a Phi Delta Theta Leadership Scholarship. In his first year at UND, he was named to the Emerging Leaders Program, one of 300 freshman campus-wide. He is currently a 1st violinist with the Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra.

The nine-member State Board of Higher Education is the policy-setting body for the North Dakota University System. The board consists of seven citizen members appointed by the governor for four-year terms, one student member appointed by the governor for a one-year term, and one faculty advisor selected by the Council of College Faculties.
