BISMARCK, N.D. – In accordance with a proclamation signed by President George W. Bush, Gov. John Hoeven has proclaimed Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, a day of prayer in North Dakota, and has directed all government agencies to fly the American and North Dakota flags at half staff until noon on that day.

In addition, Hoeven calls on all North Dakotans to observe the President’s request that Americans unite in prayer at 11 a.m. local time on that day, and that a moment of silence also be observed at 3 p.m. local time for the National Moment of Remembrance.

“On Memorial Day, North Dakotans will pause with solemn gratitude and deep respect for all our fallen servicemen and servicewomen who have given their lives to defend this nation and preserve peace and freedom around the world,” Hoeven said. “On this day and every day, we honor all of our veterans who answered their country’s call to duty with devotion and courage, and we continue to pray for those who are again defending our liberties here at home and in foreign lands.”

Hoeven will commemorate Memorial Day by attending a veterans ceremony at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, beginning at noon.
