Statement Of Gov. John Hoeven On The Collapse Of The I-35 Bridge In Minneapolis
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to the collapse of the I-35 bridge in Minneapolis Wednesday evening:
“Mikey and I join the people of North Dakota in offering our condolences and sympathy to the people of Minnesota in the wake of a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost family members and friends, and also to the emergency personnel and volunteers who are working tirelessly to address the disaster.
“Our neighbors in Minnesota will be working through this tragedy for some time, and North Dakota stands ready to assist in any way we can. We have contacted Governor Pawlenty’s office to offer any North Dakota resources needed in the rescue and recovery effort. Also, at my request, Greg Wilz, the director of our Division of Homeland Security, has contacted Minnesota’s emergency operations center to offer assistance.
“North Dakota doesn’t have any bridges similar to the one that failed in Minnesota. Nevertheless, I have asked Francis Ziegler, the director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation, to thoroughly review the inspection protocol of North Dakota’s bridges and other critical transportation infrastructure to ensure that we are doing everything we can to ensure the continued safety of the public. That effort is already underway.”
