Hoeven Names Adam Hamm Insurance Commissioner
BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven today appointed Adam Hamm Insurance Commissioner to replace former Commissioner Jim Poolman who resigned Sept. 1, 2007.
“Adam’s background as a prosecutor in the Cass County State’s Attorney’s office, as well as his legal experience, reflect the knowledge and commitment necessary to serve the people of North Dakota as insurance commissioner,” Hoeven said. “His advocacy role equips him to protect the public interest.”
“I am honored and humbled to be appointed by Governor John Hoeven as North Dakota’s next Insurance Commissioner,” Hamm said. “I have a strong commitment to public service and I look forward to being an advocate on behalf of the people of North Dakota. I also look forward to working with the outstanding and dedicated staff of the Insurance Department to ensure that both consumers’ needs are met and a healthy insurance market continues.”
Hamm, a Jamestown native, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and a Juris Doctor Degree with Distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Assistant Cass County State’s Attorney in Fargo, where he was assigned to the personal crimes team and did extensive appellate work before the North Dakota Supreme Court. He currently is an associate with the law firm of Anderson, Bottrell, Sanden & Thompson of Fargo.
Hamm is a member of the North Dakota and Minnesota State Bar Associations; the Cass County Bar Association; and the Governor’s Task Force on Violent and Sexual Offenders.
