Hoeven, Qwest Foundation Announce $25,000 In Grants For Technology In The Classroom

BISMARCK, N.D. – Gov. John Hoeven and the Qwest Foundation today announced the second chapter of the Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program. For the second year in a row, Qwest is providing a $25,000 donation to be divided among ten North Dakota teachers. The grant will be administered by the North Dakota Educational Technology Council (NDETC).

The purpose of the Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program is to recognize North Dakota public school teachers who are using technology in the classroom to improve student performance and prepare students for a world where technology is paramount. “Education is a critical aspect of North Dakota’s future,” Hoeven said. “In order to ensure our students are prepared for tomorrow’s careers, our teachers need to have access to the best resources available. The Qwest Teachers and Technology grant program will help provide that access.”

“From Qwest’s perspective, expanding the use of technology in the classroom is key to continuously enhancing our local education system,” said Scott Macintosh, Qwest president for North Dakota. “We’re proud to be able to recognize outstanding teachers with these grants.”

“The ten North Dakota teachers who received grants from Qwest last year were able to purchase hardware and software that supported new and engaging learning projects for their students,” said Dan Pullen, NDETC director. “Thanks to Qwest, ten more teachers will receive grants this year to enhance their teaching with technology.”

The grants will be awarded to teachers through a competitive grant process similar to other grant programs administered by NDETC. Grant application information is available on the NDETC Web site at www.ndetc.k12.nd.us/index.html. Applications will be due December 3, and grant recipients will be notified December 21.

The funds may be used to purchase supplies or to support professional development needs; however, funds may not be used to pay salaries or stipends.

The objectives of the program are to improve student achievement through the use of today’s technology; build a real-world team problem-solving environment; and set the groundwork for future technology integration projects.
