Hoeven Announces 2007-2008 Governor's Band And Chorus
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the Hazen High School Concert Band and the Dickinson High School Concert Chorale have been selected to serve as the 2007-2008 Governor’s Official State Band and Chorus.
“The Hazen High School Concert Band and the Dickinson High School Concert Chorale are two very impressive organizations that will represent the state of North Dakota with pride and enthusiasm,” Hoeven said. “As Governor’s Band and Chorus, they exemplify the outstanding musical talent that exists in schools and communities across our state.”
The Hazen High School Concert Band, under the direction of Chris Harvey, has received several group and individual honors at state and regional competitions and festivals. In addition to concerts and sporting events, the band performs at various community activities, and has been invited to perform at the North Dakota Music Educators Association convention this spring.
The Dickinson High School Concert Chorale, under the direction of Michael Stevenson, has performed on tour at the Festival of the Lakes in Minneapolis, where it received outstanding choral group honors, and has been invited for a second time to participate in a festival choral performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Outside of their concerts and festivals, chorale members perform at community events, including entertaining at rest homes during seasonal celebrations.
The Governor’s Band and Chorus were selected from applications submitted by school and civic groups from across the state based on musical talent, achievement and community involvement. The band and chorus may be invited to perform at official state functions held throughout the year.
