Hoeven Deploys State Resources To Minot In Response To Grassfires
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today deployed state resources to the City of Minot in response to grassfires fires burning southeast and west of the city.
Hoeven has sent two National Guard Black Hawk helicopters with dump buckets to the scene, as well as N.D. Department of Transportation water tankers. The N.D. Department of Highway Patrol is assisting with traffic and communication. The North Dakota Department of Emergency Services is coordinating state resources with Ward County Emergency Management.
The Governor spoke earlier with Dave Waind, Minot city manager, and John Hocking, Minot Fire Department battalion commander, to offer any and all state assistance available. Waind is at the County Emergency Operation Center.
Area rural fire departments, as well as resources from the Minot Air Force Base, are assisting the Minot Fire Department control the fires.
Fires on the east side of the city are burning in the vicinity of Eastside Estates, and on the west side of town in the area of Tressle Valley. Local authorities have directed some residents of the Eastside Estates subdivision to evacuate as a precaution. Residents in the Trestle Valley area have not been ordered to evacuate at this time.
A shelter has opened at the Minot Civic Auditorium with Red Cross assistance for residents.
