Hoeven Statement On Conference Committee Farm Bill Agreement
BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement in response to the congressional conference committee's announcement that it had reached an agreement on the new Farm Bill:
"We are pleased that House and Senate conferees have arrived at an agreement regarding the new Farm Bill. There is bipartisan support, and we urge Congress to pass this important piece of legislation. At the same time, we urge the President to reconsider his intention to veto bill."
"We have consistently worked hard to lobby Congress and the Administration to find common ground on farm policy. We have also worked to generate support among our nation's governors, and will again enlist their assistance in getting this bill passed."
"In addition, we have met on a number of occasions with Sec. of Agriculture Ed Schafer to encourage administration support, and in fact, I spoke with him this afternoon to encourage the President to sign the bill."
