Hoeven Statement On Congress's Passage Of The Farm Bill

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today issued the following statement on the passage of the Farm Bill:

"Bipartisan passage of the new Farm Bill reflects a broad, national consensus for the provisions it contains. The bill takes a balanced approach so that American farmers and ranchers will now have a consistent and dependable safety net, including a permanent disaster title. We worked hard for inclusion of this title, and we’re pleased to see it included. A permanent disaster title is particularly important in North Dakota owing to challenging weather conditions, like the dry conditions we are seeing this year in much of our state.

"At the same time, Farm Bill passage means American consumers will continue to have available to them the safest, highest quality food in the world. It means support for enhanced nutrition assistance funding, greater incentives for the development of agriculture-based renewable energy, and more support for rural development and conservation and environmental programs.

"I compliment all who worked for passage of this legislation, including members of Congress of both parties, as well as fellow governors, who joined with us in supporting the bill. In the end, it was a concerted effort on behalf of American agriculture and the American people that produced this important legislation for our farmers and ranchers."
