Hoeven Working With Minot, North Central Counties On Flood Prevention And Response

BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven, the N.D. Department of Emergency Services, the State Water Commission and the National Guard are working with Minot Mayor Curt Zimbelman and Ward, McHenry, Bottineau and Renville County officials to address possible flooding in north central North Dakota.

With a significant probability of flooding in Minot and other communities in the region, Hoeven is asking state officials to preposition resources to help prevent flooding, and respond quickly should it occur on the Souris River and its tributaries in north central North Dakota. The Governor also directed the State Water Commission to contact the Fish and Wildlife Service to assist with potential problems related to the J. Clark Salyer Wildlife Area. The counties are working with their commissions to declare an emergency, and assess their needs for state assistance.

In addition to Mayor Zimbelman, among those included on a conference call today to discuss the plan were Ward County Commission Chair Bruce Christianson and Emergency Manager Alan Reynolds; McHenry County Commission Chair LouElla Anderson, Commissioner Brian Erdman, Sheriff and Emergency Manager Marvin Sola and Auditor Darlene Carpenter; Bottineau County Commission Chair Jeff Beyer, Commissioner LeRoy Rude and Emergency Manager Rick Humel; and Renville County Garrison Diversion Board member and local water commission chair Jim Burbidge; and others.
