Hoeven Proclaims May 15 Peace Officers Memorial Day

Governor Directs Flags to be Flown at Half Staff

BISMARCK, N.D. - In accordance with a proclamation signed by President Barack Obama, Governor John Hoeven has proclaimed Friday, May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day in the state and has directed all government agencies to fly the American and North Dakota flags at half staff from sunrise to sunset on that day. The flags will be lowered to honor the law enforcement officials who have fallen in the line of duty.

In addition, Hoeven has proclaimed May 10-16 as Law Enforcement Week in the state to recognize the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to law enforcement and to keeping North Dakota's citizens and communities safe.

"North Dakota remains one of the safest states in the nation, and that is due in large part to the law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve their fellow citizens," Hoeven said. "We honor their valor and devotion and thank them for keeping our communities safe and secure. On this occasion, we also remember those who have lost their lives in the name of justice and the families and friends they left behind, and pay tribute to their selfless acts of heroism."
