Francis G. Ziegler, P.E.
Director of North Dakota Department of Transportation
Francis G. Ziegler was appointed director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation October 5,
2006, by Governor John Hoeven, after serving as the department's transportation director of the Office of Project
Development.
A native of Zeeland, Ziegler earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from North Dakota State University in 1970. He began working for the Department of Transportation in 1970, and has served the state of North Dakota in a number of capacities for 36 years, including Director of the Office of Project Development, West Region Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer (Operations), Construction Engineer, and Project and Resident Engineer.
Ziegler is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and has also served on a number of civic organizations, including president of the Bismarck Park Board, Bismarck Recreation Council, Ronald McDonald House Board and the Bismarck Gymnastic Academy.
Ziegler and his wife, Jan, are residents of Bismarck. They have four children and seven grandchildren.
